Highly appreciated RESCUU Boot Camp

2023-10-31

Last week saw the completion of the second student Boot Camp within the RESCUU project. Students at BUP participating universities in Ukraine participated in this event that was hosted by the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. In total seven projects were presented and the students were supported and guided by experts.

The international Boot Camp "Startups and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development" was organised and hosted by the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. The Boot Camp was a part of the BUP project RESCUU (Resilience of Education: Sustainability and Cooperation for Ukrainian Universities), coordinated by the BUP Coordinating Secretariat. The colleagues in charge of the event share more information about the outcomes:

This was the second Boot Camp carried out within the project but this one is unique as it was hosted on the platform of Innovative Ecosystem 'Sikorsky Challenge' – one of the biggest events in Ukraine in terms of innovations and startups. It’s worth mentioning that the Boot Camp’s organisation on the Sikorsky Challenge Platform was a great decision. Due to its focus, it was highly topical to host the event within the Festival of Innovative Projects that is the 'Sikorsky Challenge'.

Throughout October participating students had consultations with 'Sikorsky Challenge' experts to get better prepared to participate in the competition and present their projects for an international jury. Apart from this, project partners have carried out short workshops to aid boot campers in improving their startup ideas, in particular, such workshops were delivered by: Uppsala University, Poznan University of Technology, Åbo Akademi University, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Riga Technical University and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

During consultations with experienced professionals participants were able to improve their startup projects significantly, to then present them and get acquainted with the 'Sikorsky Challenge' innovative community.

At the 'Sikorsky Challenge' competition, Boot Camp participants presented seven projects. The student teams were from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, West Ukrainian National University and Sumy State University. In addition, students from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv took part in the Boot Camp as listeners.

An international jury highly evaluated the boot campers’ startup ideas. According to the competition results, within the section Boot Camp: Startups and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development the third place was shared by student teams from West Ukrainian National University and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; in second place came the team from Lviv Polytechnic National University and the first place went to the team from Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University. Moreover, the winning project was selected by the ‘Sikorsky Challenge’ Innovative Holding for the acceleration program. This means that members of the team are free to count on the support from Holding specialists concerning the development of a business plan, business model, etc. as well as comprehensive assistance to help them boost the projects’ Technology Readiness Level (TRL).

We’re very happy for all our participants and, actually, each of them is a winner. They’ve gained valuable experience, immersed themselves into the atmosphere of a true competition of innovative and groundbreaking startup projects, and introduced themselves to the innovative community. Our boot campers are talented, creative, goal-oriented, and open to broadening their horizons as well as conquering new peaks. We have no doubt that huge successes in the domain of innovative activity await them and we, on our part, are ready to foster this activity.

We wish our participants further success and look forward to future meetings!
