The Baltic University Programme's Coordinating Secretariat now welcome applications for the position as an intern during autumn 2023. The intern will assist the Secretariat with coordinating projects and organising conferences and trainings for researchers, teachers and students.
The Secretariat coordinates the Programme with nearly 100 participating universities in the Baltic Sea Region, cooperating for education and research in Sustainable Development and Democracy. Offering internships is one way that the BUP strives towards supporting students in their first career steps.
The BUP Coordinating Secretariat is placed at Uppsala University. The City of Uppsala, one of the oldest cities in Sweden, has a lot of attractions and beautiful places. It is also situated close to Stockholm (70 km) and the international airport Arlanda (35 km).
Requirements
The applicant should be enrolled at one of the BUP participating universities. Since the work of The Baltic University Programme is structured around 10 BUP themes related to sustainable development it is required that the applicant has knowledge of and an interest in the field of sustainable development.
The following should be included in the application:
- A CV
- A motivation letter that includes why you are interested in the position as an intern, previous work experiences and what it is that makes you a good candidate. In your motivation letter please, answer the following questions:
Why are you interested in The Baltic University Programme?
What is your experience and interest in the Baltic Sea Region?
Which tasks would you prefer to work with at the BUP Secretariat? How would you like to contribute to the programme?
Would the internship be a part of your studies?
During which time period would you prefer to be an intern?

The period, duration and workload of the internship will be defined individually depending on the intern's interests and skills. The application call is open until 25 June 2023.
Conditions of the BUP internship
The Baltic University Programme provides a workplace at the Secretariat office in Uppsala as well as work management during the internship time. As the BUP is an international programme, the working language is English.
The internship is unpaid and the intern also needs to cover travel, accommodation and their own living costs.

BUP Course Platform kick-off
The BUP Coordinating Secretariat is very happy to invite all to a kick-off meeting for the BUP Course Platform to be held on Monday 16 October at 14:00 (CEST). At the meeting you can learn more about our courses that are created as free massive open online courses (MOOCs) that are unique in that they focus on sustainability in a Baltic Sea Region context.

We present the Research Notes Letter vol. 6, issue 1 that includes abstracts on some of the most recent publications concerning the Baltic Sea Region and our ten BUP themes. This issue contains 14 scientific abstracts on current research conducted at BUP participating universities.

RESCUU networking workshop
The BUP calls for colleagues to join this networking workshop that will be dedicated to the update of the ongoing research on assessing the consequences the Russian military aggression on Ukraine’s environment. The second session will be in the form of the networking event.

Applications open for PhD Students Training
The BUP is pleased to announce the 10th BUP PhD Students Training which will take place 22-26 November at Łódź University of Technology in Poland. The training is a fantastic opportunity for PhD students from all over the Baltic Sea Region to come-together, network with each-other and become acquainted with other scholarly perspectives, in a stimulating academic environment.

Winner of the BUP Mobility Grant 2023
We are happy to announce that Tamari Mumladze from Kaunas University of Technology and the project "Sustainable Technical Solutions for Plastic Waste Management during Activities Controlled by Municipalities (TechPlastControll)" has won the BUP Mobility Grant 2023. The project aims to address the challenges of plastic waste management and pollution reduction in the municipalities of the Baltic States' big cities.

New BUP Student Representative elected
The students attenting the Student Conference have elected a new BUP Student Representative. There were four candidates and after the closed voting the participating students elected Niumi Dissanayake from Riga Technical University in Latvia as the new Student Representative.

Applications open for Research Networking Workshop
For this workshop, our Ukrainian colleagues call for teachers and scholars from other countries to support with research methods as well as introduce the topics of ecological damage, environmental restoration, and post-disaster recovery of Ukraine into educational programs as more specialists will be needed after the end of the war.

Call for application for PhD students to attend the BUP Science and Sail
The BUP now opens the applications for a limited number of PhD students to join the Science and Sail. Accepted PhD students will have a unique opportunity to take part in the full program, along with the students, while also practicing their teaching and mentoring skills. Each PhD student will be assigned to support a group of 8 international students and supporting them in contextualising the work.

BUP Student Conference 2023
We proudly announce the BUP Student Conference 2023! This year, the conference will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, and the topic is Sustainable production and consumption: A circular economy perspective. The four-day conference is free of charge and applications are open for students at BUP participating universities. A maximum of 80 students will be selected to take part.

BUP Mobility Grant 2023
The aim with the BUP Mobility Grant is to develop and strengthen the cooperation among young researchers in the Baltic Sea Region by covering travel and accommodation for a research project. The awarded maximum is a total value of 3000 Euros.

Nominate for the BUP PhD Award 2023
The BUP PhD Award is a distinction given to the author of what is judged to be the most qualified PhD work defended at any of the BUP participating universities. The winners will receive a prize in the form of a diploma and support up to a maximum of 1000€ for either attending a scientific conference or publishing in a peer-review scientific journal.

Workshop to introduce the Supervisor Collegium
For some years now, the BUP has hosted a Supervisor Collegium where those colleagues interested in supervision can register themselves to be contacted regarding supervision. The BUP is now delighted to invite colleagues that are interested in this to an initial workshop which will introduce the project and allow individual contributions.

BUP welcomes record number of Student Ambassadors
This spring semester the BUP will be joined by the largest group of Student Ambassadors so far. The number of Student Ambassadors is now 26 and they represent 14 BUP participating universities.

Secretariat welcomes new intern
During spring 2023 the BUP Coordinating Secretariat at Uppsala University will be joined by an intern. During the semester Brian Kipruto, studying the Master's Programme in Sustainable Development at Uppsala University, will be supporting the team where most needed.

The BUP Coordinating Secretariat are happy to announce that we have published our second massive open online course (MOOC) on the BUP Course Platform. The course Sustainable Food Systems in the Baltic Sea Region is now available as a self-paced and free of charge course.

BUP Sustainability Report
We are pleased to announce that the BUP Student Ambassadors, as a part of the project Sustainability at participating universities have created a Sustainability Report. This report contains enlightening moments and ideas about sustainability at the students universities and how the Student Ambassadors are being inspired and motivated.
