New BUP Student Representative

2021-05-06

The BUP Student Parliament elected a new student representative to the BUP International Board. The Student Representative is Shima Vahedi from Kaunas University of Technology. She started her mandate period as Deputy Student Representative upon the election.

Each year, the National Centre that holds the BUP presidency organizes The Annual Student Conference. This year, it was the Slovak National Centre under the direction of Barbora Čakovská, that organised the conference as an on-line event. This way, the students from the BUP Participating Universities were offered a conference, in spite of the different restrictions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

This also meant that the Student Parliament was able to convene, as usual in connection to the Annual Student Conference. The parliamentary session is the chance for the BUP students to elect a new student representative. After the Student Parliament has elected a representative, the student becomes Deputy Student Representative for the first year of their mandate and then Students Representative for the second. The Students Representatives always work in pairs.

There are two Student Representatives on the BUP International Board so that students have their say in the direction the Programme takes. As the Student Parliament convenes during the Annual Student Conference and the conference during 2020 was cancelled, so the Student Parliament was cancelled as well. For the student representatives, this has meant yet another year in their respective positions. We are very grateful for the dedication and persistence of Student Representative Mirjam Weituschat from University of Greifswald in Germany who has held her mandate since 2018. The Deputy Student Representative Ellen Chkhitadze from Marii Curie Sklodowska University in Poland, was elected 2019.

We look forward to future cooperation with all of them in their new roles.
