Measures taken by the BUP Coordinating Secretariat

  • 24 February: The four BUP secretariats sent out a message on social media  stating that the aim is to support the colleagues within the programme, maintaining the cooperation within the programme and welcoming any questions or concerns from the colleagues within the programme, information was also sent to the board members and the centre directors

  • 25 February: The BUP coordinating secretariat contacted all BUP contact persons at universities in Ukraine offering them support

  • 25 February: The chair of the board Olle Jansson and the director Madeleine Granvik had a meeting with the vice-chancellor, pro-rector and univ. director of Uppsala University to update them on the current situation and the needs of the BUP. Communication with the university leadership at Uppsala university is ongoing

  • 25 February: The BUP coordinating secretariat sent out information to the national centres regarding what the coordinating secretariat had done so far and what the plan for the upcoming week was, the centre directors were encouraged to share suggestions on initiatives regarding how to continue the work within the BUP

  • 26 February: The BUP coordinating secretariat actively asked the leadership at Uppsala university for clear directives

  • 28 February: A meeting was held with the executive committee of the BUP board to discuss the situation

  • 28 February: An extra board meeting was called for 4 March to discuss the situation

  • 3 March: The BUP coordinating secretariat received directives from Uppsala University

  • 3 March: The BUP director contacted all colleagues effected by the changes being made in regards to the directives from Uppsala University

  • 3 March: The four BUP secretariats and the chair of the board issued a statement regarding under which conditions cooperation within the BUP can continue

  • 4 March: A board meeting was held to discuss the directives from Uppsala University and how cooperation within the BUP can continue

  • 4 March: The BUP coordinating secretariat posted an appeal on social media and the BUP website asking all BUP member Universities to assist our Ukrainian colleagues in need of help via the initiative Baltic Science Bridge

  • 7 March: The BUP coordinating secretariat contacted Scholars At Risk (SAR) regarding how the Baltic Science Bridge could complement the work that the SAR is doing. Communication with SAR is ongoing

  • 9 March: The BUP coordinating secretariat had a meeting with the BUP Student Ambassadors to inform them of the changes within the BUP, how this impacts our events and most importantly to gather information about how the BUP participating universities are helping students affected by the war so it can be shared on the BUP website

  • 10 March: The BUP coordinating secretariat contacted participating Universities with an appeal for them to help our Ukrainian colleagues affected by the war via the initiative Baltic Science Bridge 

  • 14 March: Meeting with centre directors to discuss the situation. Communication with the centre directors is ongoing

  • 14 March: Information regarding initiatives to help scholars and students affected by the war in Ukraine was sent out to everyone that is a part of BUP as well as posted on the BUP website and social media

  • 17 March: The coordinating secretariat sent out the BUP Weekly which focused solely on the war in Ukraine. The information shared included an update regarding the Baltic Science Bridge, initiatives aiming to help scholars and students as well as travel grants for Ukrainian students that wishes to attend BUP events
     
  • 2 May: The coordinating secretariat welcomed professor Lidiia Hryniv from Ivan Franko National University of L’viv to the office in Uppsala.
