The Baltic University Programme is a network of more than 190
universities and other institutes of higher learning throughout
the Baltic Sea region. The network is coordinated by the Baltic
University Programme Secretariat at Uppsala
University, Sweden.
The Programme focuses on questions of sustainable development, environmental
protection and democracy in the Baltic Sea region. The aim is
to support the key role that universities play in a democratic,
peaceful and sustainable development. This is achieved by developing
university courses and participation in projects in cooperation
with authorities, municipalities and others.
The Secretariat initiates and organizes courses on sustainable
development in the Baltic Sea region. This includes the production
of textbooks, films and other course material. The production
is organized in cooperation with the national centers, teachers
and researchers in the network.
In general the secretariat works to support and promote the regional
cooperation/contacts between universities and corresponding institutions
of higher learning throughout the Baltic Sea region.
