Announcements: Two Master's Programmes

We forward to you two announcements for two Maters Programmes that may be of interest to you.

  1. the Institute of International Education (IIE), Department of Education, Stockholm University is now admitting students for the Autumn 2011 two year Master’s Degree Programme in International and Comparative Education (120 ECTS credits) as well as single courses and exchanges between our universities. Application deadline 15th January 2011.
  2. A new Master program on Integrated Water Resource Management at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Development, Uppsala University in the autumn 2011. Application deadline is 17 January 2011.

(1) Master’s programme in International and Comparative Education
The overall aim of the programme is for students to acquire or update knowledge and analytical skills in educational policy, management, reform and evaluation. The programme gives international, global and comparative perspectives on these areas, examining cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural and developmental dimensions. The programme comprises 120 credits and its duration is four terms. More specially, participants in the programme will acquire knowledge about the interaction between individual and societal factors, as well as informal, non-formal and formal learning at different levels, from the pre-school level to higher education, internationally and comparatively. This programme is available both as a distance education programme and as an on-campus programme.

Admission Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences or a Teacher’s certificate, or its equivalent, corresponding to 180 higher education credits or 120 credit points defined in accordance with the rules regulating Swedish higher education – equivalent to about three years of full time study.
A good mastery of the English language. Foreign students with English as second language must be able to verify their language proficiency (i.e. in the case of TOEFL, a minimum score of 550 points is required).

Tuition Fees:
There are no tuition fees for students coming from the EU, EEA and Switzerland. The cost for full-time studies in the social sciences is SEK 90,000 per year. For more details about fees visit

(2) Masters programme: Integrated Water Resource Management Masters Program

There is a large demand in the water sector for professionals skilled in process oriented management and facilitation:

  • How can local perspectives and voices be represented in the governance of shared water resources?
  • How can we expect good freshwater management without integrating insights from interdependent sectors and stakeholders?
  • Can we improve human health by mainstreaming gender issues within water resource management?
  • Does reliable hydrological data lead to good communication?
  • And many other questions….

During the two year program, integrated water resource management will be explored from a wide range of perspectives. The course participants will undertake a journey of iterations between concepts, case studies, methods and thesis work.
