Floods in Poland:
Interreg IV B Baltic Sea projects shows that sustainable river basin management is needed

The current floods experienced in Poland are a result of complex hydrogeological mechanisms, but they also show how important the sustainable management of river basins is. Withouth proper care and planning, drainage areas along rivers may be damaged and this may make them more vulnerable to floods. The Interreg IVB Baltic Sea Project "Waterpraxis" tries to understand the complexity of river basins across the Baltic and, by means of case studies in the participant countries (Denmark, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden), it will suggest some measures which may optimise the use of the resources of river basins in the region.

Waterpraxis offers concrete support towards the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive and the EU Flood Directive and gathers the relevant stakeholders in the field. Details on the Waterpraxis project can be seen at:
