Baltic University Programme

The Baltic Sea region

Welcome to the STS Fryderyk Chopin 2006 site.

For the 8th year in a row Baltic University Programme this year arranged a sailing cruise on a tall ship on the Baltic Sea. Some 40 students and teachers from eight countries had the opportunity to join the Polish sail training ship STS Fryderyk Chopin for two weeks as sailing crew.

The voyage begun in Gdynia, Poland on the 28th August. It continued to Simrishamn, Sweden and Turku, Finland before returning to Hel Marine Station and Gdynia in Poland.

The aim with the cruise is many fold. One is that the students should learn to work and cooperate in an international setting. Another is to learn about how sailing ships are run and, of course, to get hands on experience of the Baltic Sea. But the cruise is also about to learn something on the implementation of the concept of sustainable development and how it may influence the Baltic Sea and the common environment and thus our future.

The photos in this site are all by the participants of this year's cruise. Note that the photos are copyright respective photographer. They may thus not be copied and used for something else without the consent of the copyright holder.
