The Baltic University Rector's Conference
19-20 October 2006
The Baltic University Programme Rector's Conference on 19-20 October 2006 marked a turning point in the history of the Programme. A total of 165 participants were taking part in all or parts of the conference. The parallel sessions produced some 12 concrete proposals for future developments of the Programme and a declaration was adopted by the conference. During the conference 36 universities signed an interuniversity agreement with Uppsala University. Since then new universities are continuously added to the list of signatories. These contracts constitute a formal and legal base for future cooperation between the universities in the Programme.
From January 1st 2007, the coordination Secretariat at Uppsala University has together with other units formed Uppsala Centre for Sustainable Development. The new centre is part of the Faculty of Technology and Natural Sciences. Still it is a vivid inter-disciplinary environment presently with mostly social scientists. The Secretariat will continue coordination of BUP in areas such as education as before but research cooperation has the possibility to become stronger.
With this CD we want to wish all of the participants of the Rectors conference a successful and pleasant year 2007, hoping for a continued fruitful cooperation within the Baltic University Programme. The CD contains all the presentations (ppt format) and documentation from the conference, the documentation of the BUP, formal documents for the Inter-University contract and some additional documents, which may be interesting to some of you. It is illustrated by a series of photos mostly by Marcin Stolarek of Lodz Technical University and Christian Andersson of the BUP Secretariat.
